Settled in 1812, Evansville sits on a horseshoe bend on the Ohio River. Nicknamed the “River City,” one of the most popular tourist attraction is Casino Aztar, a restored riverboat and floating casino, visited by residents and tourists alike throughout the year. The third largest city in Indiana, Evansville is a big ‘small town’ where residents enjoy each other’s company and welcome strangers like they do their neighbors, with a handshake and a smile.
Evansville has a broad economic base, offering new businesses as well as established firms stability, diversity and vitality and a large client base right at their back door. During the final third of the 20th century, Evansville became the commercial, medical, and service hub for the tri-state region.
A 1990s economic spurt was fueled by the growth of the University of Southern Indiana, which now has 10,000 students, making Evansville even more of a busy, vital community. With the arrival of the new Toyota and AK Steel plants, as well as Casino Aztar, Evansville’s growth has held steady, offering new jobs for residents and well as people who enjoy the feel of a big city without actually having to live in one.

History
Settled some 200 years ago, Evansville was built on a gentle horseshow bend of the Ohio River. Named for Col. Bob Evans by Hugh McGary, Evansville was plotted and laid out and by 1818, had become the county seat. Soon it would become a bustling commercial town, with an ever growing river trade. Incorporated in 1819, Evansville received a city charter in 1847. With the building of the Wabash and Erie Canal that connect the Great Lakes to the Ohio River, Evansville’s growth increased.
With the advent of WWII, Evansville became the largest inland producer of Tank Landing Ships and a specific line of the P-47 Thunderbolt airplane, producing almost half of the P47s made during the war. After the war, the industrial production in the city expanded quickly and culturally, evolved with the population moving out into the developing suburbs.
Today, Evansville has become the commercial, medical service hub for the tri-state region. Businesses and residents alike love the atmosphere in Evansville, a city that offers its residents the best of everything.
